Project Description

With over 11,000 students choosing to study at Bangor every year the student accommodation needs to be an attractive proposition for future students considering their place of study and home for the next few years. Spread across two villages the University has 2,960 rooms with all accommodation being self-catered and a majority being en-suite. Also on site is a shop, café, restaurant, sports centre and laundrette.

Asset Plus were commissioned via their REFIT contract with the University to undertake an investment grade proposal which identified a number of energy conservation measures to reduce consumption across the two student villages, the largest of which is operated by a 3rd party operator, Pobl.

The final scheme included 6 different energy conservation measures which reduced consumption by over 25% via a combination of more efficient technologies and increased control of the environment. As all water, electricity and heating bills are included in the package price to the student this reduction in consumption provided direct commercial benefits to the University as well as increasing their already impressive sustainability credentials as one of the top 2% of greenest universities in the world.

Careful planning of the installation with the student operators and the events management team was essential to avoid any disruption to students and event guests and to maintain the University’s high customer satisfaction levels.
